How to Fix Camping Chairs
How to fix camping chairs can be one of the most difficult tasks that you will do with your family when on vacation. If it is not fixed correctly or repaired properly, your chair can really deteriorate fast, leaving you with little or no use of the chair after your trip has come to an end. On that note, it is imperative that you are able to fix them properly, in order for you to have a comfortable trip next time around. In this article I will take a look at some tips and tricks on how to fix these seats.
The first step to fixing your chair is to check for any cracks or tears in the legs. If you see any damage to the legs, this will automatically result in a shortened life of the chair. To fix this, simply fill in the area of the crack or tear with some sand. Be careful when doing this step, since you don’t want to end up permanently adding to the length of your chair. You should keep in mind that if you add too much sand to the area, then it may cause your chair to sink.
The second step on how to fix camping chairs, which deals with the leg stays. When you find a chair that has a legstay, this means that it will not fold up when you are on it. There are usually two pieces of metal bolted to the backside of the chair, which you will need to unscrew in order to remove the leg stays. Once you have the leg stays out, you will then need to take out the bolt that holds the legs to the chair and replace it with a new one.
The third step on how to fix camping chairs, which deals with the fixing the armrests. If the armrest does not sit level with the chair legs, then you will need to add a couple of strips of wood behind the arms so that they sit level with the legs of the chair. There is usually an elastic band that goes around the bottom of the armrest, so that it can expand and contract when you put weight on it. This should keep the armrest level as well as the rest of the chair.
The fourth step on how to fix camping chairs, deals with putting the legs back in the chair. You will need to remove the legs from the chair and attach them to the bottom back of the chair with bolts or screws. If you are using screws, you will probably need to use some wood glue in order to attach the legs. Once the legs are in place, you will want to use a putty knife to smooth out any sharp edges that may be present on the legs. Once you have finished smoothing out the edges, you will then be ready to put the cushion back into place on top of the chair.
The last step on how to fix camping chairs, deals with filling the chair with sand and placing it into the bottom of the chair. Before placing the sand in, you will want to take out all of the padding on the bottom of the chair and then scoop up some of the sand and spread it around on top of the padding. The sand should fill the entire bottom of the chair except for one or two inches around the sides. Then, take the bottom edge of the sand and push it into the back of the chair so that it matches the shape of the back.
